My name is Dale Hess; I’m a Captain with the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, Fire Department. Nile has asked me to provide information for a fire prevention segment on Car Connection. I will be with Nile, on the air, on the fifteenth of March, my radio debut, so to speak. If all goes well, you may just hear from me every now and again. With the help of the Fire Prevention Office of the Air Base Fire Department, the Erie County Fire Safety Division and the Fire Prevention Bureau of the Buffalo Fire Department, I hope to provide timely, accurate and up to date information concerning fire safety. Fire safety not just for the “Do-It-Yourself” work shop, but fire safety for the entire family. Of course, this being Car Connection, we will definitely spend time on vehicle fire safety, but we can also talk about “Life Safety”. Here, let me show you what I mean. This list is not the “End all or Be All” when it comes to safety. Consider this to be a “Jumping off” point. Ideas to get the ball rolling. With out any more fanfare, here is our starting line up:
Smoke Detectors Carbon Monoxide Detectors What to do “In case of Fire” Exit Drills In The Home (EDITH) Heating Furnace Fireplace Space Heaters Electrical Appliances Circuits Extension Cords Kitchen/Cooking Fire Extinguishers Matches & Lighters Smoking Materials Flammable/Combustible Liquid Storage Seasonal Fire Safety Spring Summer Fall Winter Children / Grandchildren and Fire Safety Emergency First Aid And of course - Vehicle Fire Safety
As you can see, there’s quite a list to get us started. Tune in to the show and see where we go first. Check back with the web site often, there will be a spot for fire prevention in the near future. Until next time, stay Fire Safe. Dale
